Creating a File Drop Template

This guide walks you through creating a new File Drop template using the template wizard for automated printing from TXT and CSV files.

Before You Begin

You'll need:

  1. Sample TXT or CSV file - Example of the data format you'll be printing
  2. Sample label image - Picture or sketch of desired label layout

Critical: The data field order cannot change once configured. Ensure your sample represents the actual format your system will send.

Starting the Wizard

  1. Open QRlogix Software
  2. Locate the File Drop section on dashboard
  3. Click the New button
New File Drop Template

Step 1: Create New or Use Existing

Create New

Choose Create new to start from scratch.

(Or select from library if you have existing templates to duplicate)

Step 2: Select Label Size

Predefined sizes:

  • 1" x 3" Microscope Slides
  • 1" x 1" Tissue Cassettes
  • Other common sizes

Or define custom:

  • Width (in inches)
  • Height (in inches)

Step 3: Choose Counter Type

Counter Selection

Copies (Duplicates):

  • Prints identical labels
  • Best for: Backup labels, duplicates

To/From (Sequential):

  • Prints numbered sequence
  • Best for: Serial sections, slide series

Step 4: Name Your Template

Template Naming

Template Name: Descriptive name (e.g., "LIS Pathology Slides")

Description: Optional notes about use

Step 5: Configure Settings

After wizard completes, configure three key areas:

  1. Folder Settings - Watch folder and archive options
  2. Data Settings - Field mapping and separators
  3. Label Settings - Label design

Configuration Order

Important: Configure in this order:

  1. Folder Settings first → Where files come from
  2. Data Settings second → How to parse files
  3. Label Settings last → How to design labels
